Sports Science Can Be Studied Via Dinosaur Fossils?

April 4, 2006

Sometimes the most unlikely explanations are usually the best way of uncovering the truth. Scientists are now studying the ancient remains of fossils to explain diseases like the bird flu for example. Recently, scientific studies into primate fossil collections have uncovered some interesting findings into our own human development as follows:
“These fossils, along with skeletons of living primates, will allow us to trace the major changes that have occurred in the human skeleton as we diverged from our close primate relatives.”

Students interested in the field of sports medicine might take particular interest in this section of the museum, according to Beard.

“Some changes in the human skeleton that we often regard as being unique to us — such as our remarkably mobile shoulder joints that allow us to pitch baseballs and play golf — are actually features that we hold in common with our closest primate relatives, the apes…”

Now that is some interesting research. Sounds funny, but it is possibly a great way to analyse how modern humans have evolved in a sporting sense, and also try to increase our understanding of the human anatomy and it’s evolution. Basic understanding of human anatomy is great for any athlete to succeed at any level.

Yahoo Brings The World Cup 2006 To Your Mobile Phone

April 4, 2006

Yahoo is now bringing the round ball experience to your mobile for the World Cup 2006. I’m thinking this is a good thing as you can check out what is happening in Germany up to the minute on your mobile phone. Here are a few of the features you can expect:
  • The deal to “give football fans access to real-time match information, schedules, scores and commentary on this summer’s e tournament on their mobile phones.”
  • Mobile MatchCast ( a downloadable app) accessible on any new java type handset.

I’m assuming that the Mobile MatchCast technology will be a way to hopefully see snippets of every game, which would be great!
