I recently wrote a comment before I went to football training. I just got here a few mins ago and showed the article to my gaffer. He still says that 6’9 is far to big to be a goalkeeper and that I should be playing basketball instead. I told him that Thomas Sorensen is 6’8 and he plays I’m goals as that that’s only an inch smalle than me. He retaliated by saying that he knows how to save all varieties of shots and that I don’t. I am just about to start training and I will prove him wrong.

I am 22 years old and I am REALLY tall. Some people say I am TOO tall to be a goalkeeper. At the age of fifteen I was 6’4 and I just kept growing. I am now 6’9 and I am never picked for my team as I can’t get to the bottom corners fast enough. I think this is unfair seeing as most people say that the taller you are the better. I have been replaced by a 6’0 goalkeeper who is small and athletic. I am very disappointed but I am going to show my gaffer this article and make him see sense. Although this article states that smaller people can be goalies it also says that anyone (including ridiculously tall people like me) can also be guarding the net. Thank you for helping me out. I hope I will be making saves for my team once more.

i am 12 years old and I’m 5″10 or 175 cm . i play soccer in indonesia my backup is shorter than me but he is very good.. Height can help but being short doesnt hurt as long as you have a good work ethic.

Hey,
Im a 5ft 4 Jv girls goalie, and i have come to the realization that it doen’t matter how tall you are as long as you are quick, agile, fearless, and can stop those upper 90 shots. If i jump and my hand is as high as a 5ft 9 girl’s hand while she is jumping, im still gonna cover the same amount of area as her no matter how tall she is. So, us shorties just need to spend those extra hours in the weightroom, so that we can jump higher than those other girls and stop them balls!!!!

I am 5″9 and im 16 years old, I play club soccer in the US, my dream is to play college soccer and I always tell myself that even though im not very tall,i can make it if i work hard. Im happy to find encouragement and i also encourage you guys to not give up. Two perfect examples are Jorge Campos and Casillas. Casillas because he is that tall and is the best goalkeeper in the world.
