Goalkeeper training at Pro Football Trials event in Sydney

October 30, 2024

On a rain soaked Sunday (3rd October 2024), I had the privelege of training 10 phenomenal young goalkeepers of varying ages, from all around Australia. It  was great to work alongside Aussie football trainer Nathan Gray, and gain expert advice from leading youth scouts Phil Thompson and Karl Kirkwood of Blackburn FC and Everton FC . The Pro Football Trials roadshow has been an initiative I’ve been quite proud to be associated with since it’s owners had approached me late last year.  With goalkeepers travelling in from a far as Perth just to be part of the roadshow events across Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, I must admit I was really impressed with the set up, efficiency and work put in to creating such a great event.

I assessed many of the young goalkeepers around technical, tactical, strength and plyometric ability.  Following the event, I was asked by Phil and Karl to provide an assessment of the young goalkeepers whom we could recommend for further trials and assessments in England, and it was great to get their support and feedback. Following are a few action shots of myself training the goalkeepers at the Sydney leg of the Pro Football Roadshow Trials:

(Above: Young goalkeepers gearing up for a strenuous drill)

(Above: Pep talk during the goalkeeper drill to motivate the goalkeepers)

(Above: Some great footwork before the dive)

(Above: Great coverage and forward momentum to stop the ball)

(Above: One of many stellar saves!)

(Above: Expertly using the feet to push out the ball)

(Above: Excellent footwork and concentration before an awesome diving save)

(Above: Karl Kirkwood, Phil Thomsposn and I overlook a great pep talk by Nathan Gray).

I’d like to thank all the goalkeepers whom had showed up from the Keeper Skool family across all three events in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Each and eveyone of you had put in some extremely dilligent and hard work and am sure that you will continue with future success ina and beyond the goal. Hope you enjoyed the action shots above!

You can also access more information and interact with other trialists from the roadshow events via the Pro Football Trials Facebook page. Become a fan today to gain access to future events all around the globe.

    Hi John
My son went to Canberra as invited and had a good week end and we meet some interesting good people which made it a good learning curv about inter football . He played in a good team and did not get a lot of work over the week end the keeper had a short session with Karl & Phil on Saturday for about 30min. After Canberra we tryed to get in to the Sydney Trail with no luck it looks like it was a lot better for the keeper. Canberra had 11 keeper off all ages.

Not a problem at all. Great to hear you participated, though next year I will try to make it across all events.

Keep me posted as to your sons progress.

    Hi Diego,

There will be trials next year in the US. Please visit profootballtrials.co.uk. I don’t think they will be in Florida to begin with but we’ll keep everyone posted.
