Arsenal face new goalkeeping crisis

November 5, 2024

Arsenal have had more than their fair share of goalkeeping crises this season, most of which have been documented with an element of smugness by certain tabloids. However, the Gunners may now be embroiled in a crisis that few would have perceived as being possible at the start of the season – they have too many goalkeepers on top form.

Although Manuel Almunia has failed to shine between the sticks this season, Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny have both been in great form for the club and anyone looking to bet on Premier League action should remember this.

Clearly Arsenal fans are delighted by this turn of events, but the simultaneous emergence of Fabianski and Szczesny may mean Arsene Wenger will have problems keeping hold of both of them.

With Szczesny out of contract at the end of the season, and the player himself already demanding a bigger slice of first team action, the odds of the player staying at the club seem to have diminished rapidly after Fabianski managed to show that he is a capable goalkeeper.

Most fans assumed Wenger was in the process of attempting to sign an experienced goalkeeper in the short term in order to keep the club competitive, while putting the finishing touches on Szczesny’s development, but it now appears that Wenger is no longer going to be entering the transfer market in January to buy a new keeper. The Premier League betting offers suggest they have an excellent chance of winning a trophy without bringing new faces in.

Just a month or so again, the prospect of Wenger not being active come January may have seemed like a disaster for Gunners fans but now, the Arsenal faithful are too busy celebrating the emergence of two talented and confident individuals between the sticks to care.
