Iker Casillas, nor Buffon want a piece of Manchester City’s pie

You’ve got to love sensationalist claims in the UK papers. First we heard that Manchester City were looking at Buffon, now they had Casillas in their sights The only thing is, that both player’s agents, and management from Juventus and Real Madrid have claimed both shot stoppers had no link at all with The Blues.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom is worth an estimated £33 billon out of an estimated combined family worth of £322 billion could certainly skim a few quid out of his own personal fortune, but much of the talk around Casillas and Buffon is just that, talk.

And why would they move from their respective clubs after such a long tenure between the sticks? The supposed £12m-a-year contract that City would cough up? I tend to think that passion for their clubs and country are paramount for two of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Manchester City has a wealth of young goalkeeper talent in Joe Hart, and recently Mark Hughes has vouched for the young goalkeepers ability, in a solid performance against Paris St Germain in the UEFA Cup on Wednesday night:

“He did well. He needed to be strong and come to the fore near the end of the game and he did that,” said the City boss. “Joe is an exceptionally gifted young goalkeeper.

“Irrespective of the speculation, who’s coming, who’s going, what you have to do as a player is get on with playing well and being part of what we are doing here. He is certainly doing that.”

Hughes resonates the need for investment in the ongoing future development of his young goalkeeping stable. Even though European glory is always a prominent part of Premiership football, and business does take precedence in many instances, there is really no need for Casillas or Buffon at Manchester City, and I don’t believe that Joe Hart will be replaced any time soon.
