James makes himself available for international selection
May 13, 2025
David James, a man who has carved a career for himself out of making high-profile errors for both club and country in between the sticks that even the likes of Heurelho Gomes would be proud to look back on in his back catalogue of bloopers, has revealed that he would love to play for his country again one day if called upon by the England boss.
James’s revelation came after the announcement earlier this week from Ben Foster that he is planning on putting his international career on hold until further notice so that he can provide himself with the best chance possible of enjoying a long and successful career at club level. As those who follow the international football betting will know,
With the Birmingham goalkeeper revealing that now is the right time for him to focus upon his efforts at his club, the 28-year-old has, in many people’s minds, written off his chances of ever working his way into Fabio Capello’s plans again, with the England manager widely known to take a hard line stance on individuals who seem not to care about wearing the shirt.
It would seem that the presence of the seemingly unmovable Joe Hart in the England goal has not been enough to dissuade James from offering his services to the international squad once more, despite being on the wrong side of 40 and plying his trade in the Championship with Bristol City. As anyone who follows the Champions League betting odds will know, international keepers need to be playing week in week out at the highest level.
Should Capello decide that, to move forward, England actually need to take a step back in the form of David James, England fans could yet be calling out for the return of Ben Foster, no matter how unlikely that seems.
