Wolves keeper keeping the faith

October 15, 2024

Wolves have been paying the price for silly mistakes so far this season but have enough confidence and ability to survive Premier League relegation, according to Marcus Hahnemann. The veteran USA goalkeeper suffered relegation from the Premier League during his time with Reading and has seen Wolves struggle in recent weeks. They started the season in a confident manner but have now lost four matches on the trot and now face an early-season relegation six-pointer against West Ham on Saturday. The odds for Premier League winner in the game suggest it will be a tight contest.

Mick McCarthy’s side lost to both Spurs and Fulham in recent weeks after taking the lead, and Hahnemann claims this shows that Premier League players “will punish you” if you take your eye off the ball and make silly mistakes.

Three points in Saturday’s game are looking crucial for Wolves, as they face Premier League title chasers Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal in their next four league games – and the Premier League betting suggests the Wanderers won’t get many points from those games.

Their goalkeeper reckons there is no tension around the training ground and he is confident the side can preserve their Premier League status this season despite things slipping away from them at the moment.
“We just need a result to go our way,” he said. “Everyone is still working really hard and with the players we’ve got I’m still very confident we’re going to be OK.”

Wolves are set to benefit for the West Ham game by the long-awaited return to fitness of £4 million summer signing Stephen Hunt. He and Hahnemann were colleagues at Reading and a player of his experience and quality could be vital in a Premier League relegation battle.
